So the time had finally come for a big HDTV (after months of wavering and researching). I went to Best Buy tonight and got a 50" HDTV. Glorious no? I get it delivered on Sunday. The amount of money I dropped was unfortunate but TV watching just got a whole lot better! Surpris

lil' tv? Anyway you'll have to tell us if HD is any different and worth spending the extra money.

We have 2 HD TVs, but they're both 27 inch ones. Since HD isn't mainstream yet, we don't have any HD stuff to watch Embarassé

HDTV if far better than regular TV I have seen the difference. However, the experts are saying the jump in qaulity from DVD to HD-DVD is hardly noticeable.

That's awesomely awesome.

It'll be a while before I ever go HD but I've been thinking about getting a nice little HD-ready widescreen TV for a while. Nothing crazy expensive. Maybe A bit over 30 inches. That'd be nice.

I got it hooked up this morning. Wow! You don't realize how big it is until you get it all set up, looks way bigger than it does in the store. Best 2K I ever spent!

The first time I saw HD was almost 2 years ago at the Samsung Center in New York at the Time Warner Building. My brother was so amazed he bought a Samsung HD TV and DVD recorder not long after.
What sickens me is I haven't seen a single person in a electrical store buying a traditional CRT TV - even 80 year olds are being bullied into buying expensive technology that is (currently) pretty pointless (HD broadcasts are available to probably less than a few hundred people because of the lack of equipment). In fact, it makes the awfully-compressed UK digital terrestrial picture look awful!

They're now advertising when analog is getting switched off.

My dad bought a tv yesterday, a 29" widescreen tv. One of the staff, who knows my dad was trying to talk him into buying a new plasma tv.

By 2009 everything in the US has to be in HD. 4:3 TVs and non HD is just an obsolete format at this point.

I think that target is very unrealistic. Britain won't be fully digital until about 2012, and about 2/3 of homes have already made the transition! HD is very much a niche market here.
