Well according to; http://lifestyle.uk.msn.com/schoolholidays/article.aspx?cp-documentid=598368 :

"33 Things Kids Should Do Before They're 10

Have your children experienced the 33 things they should do before they're 10? Have they cycled through a muddy puddle, made perfume from flower petals, organised a teddy bears' picnic or baked bread, asks Sarah Stone.

The list was compiled last year by the washing powder company Persil to encourage children to experience different types of play without the worry of getting dirty. According to Persil, one third of children avoid certain forms of fun because they are too concerned about getting grubby.

A plug for washing powder it may be, but I do think the list stands on its own merits as an excellent childhood checklist. My eight-year-old daughter and I pinned it up on the fridge and tick off the activities as she does them. She started off on a pretty good footing, having completed 25 of the 33 things listed, and now we've just got three to go: camping out in the garden (yes, but only if I sit up in the kitchen keeping watch all night with an intravenous drip of coffee attached to one hand and a baseball bat to the other); making and flying a kite (well, she's flown plenty of kites, but make one? I'm sure there'll be instructions in my Blue Peter annual circa 1976); and collecting frogspawn (this one might have to be tippexed out when she's not looking. Frogspawn belongs in ponds, not jam jars on windowsills, and then there are our two cats…).

Anyway, why not get your kids to take the challenge this summer and work their way through the list (although making snow angels - No. 16 - will have to wait). Ooh, and take a look at point 32 - you might even get breakfast in bed.

1. Roll on your side down a grassy bank

2. Make a mud pie

3. Make your own modelling dough mixture

4. Collect frogspawn

5. Make perfume from flower petals

6. Grow cress on a windowsill

7. Make a papier mâché mask

8. Build a sandcastle

9. Climb a tree

10. Make a den in the garden

11. Make a painting using your hands and feet

12. Organise your own teddy bears' picnic

13. Have your face painted

14. Play with a friend in the sand

15. Make some bread

16. Make snow angels

17. Create a clay sculpture

18. Take part in a scavenger hunt

19. Camp out in the garden

20. Bake a cake

21. Feed a farm animal

22. Pick some strawberries

23. Play pooh sticks

24. Recognise five different bird species

25. Find some worms

26. Ride a bike through a muddy puddle

27. Make and fly a kite

28. Plant a tree

29. Build a nest out of grass and twigs

30. Find ten different leaves in the park

31. Grow vegetables

32. Make breakfast in bed for your parents

33. Make a mini assault course in your garden/the park"

Tom Boy?

I'd say probably about 17. We've hardly had enought snow for snow angels. I can't ride a bike. Rolling down hills was probably one of my favourites. Anyone rulled down a muddy hill by any chance?

Heh. Those sound like fun!!

I'm sure I did many of those things; but I'm afraid I'd have to adjust the list a tiny bit for my son; no snow in these latitudes. But still, this looks like a really good list of things to do this Summer! Bravo

I'd say I did most of those, although I was never really all that girly and took to baking or having parties/get-togethers with teddies (I'm not all that fond of teddies anyway; we had a "bring your teddy to school" day once, and I brought in my cherished stuffed kitty instead Tire la langue teddies are just not my thing) I did a lot of the nature stuff though; I loved frogs and bugs and nature in general at an early age. I even took to raising Monarch caterpillars for a while.

I know for sure I didn't bring breakfast to my parents. That kind of thing never really crossed my mind Tire la langue Plus, they were always up before me anyways.

I'm not entirely sure, but I have a feeling it's possibly something to do with either playdough or plastacine (sp?)

superyo wrote:

just planting cress seeds in a tray and putting the tray on a window cill. I remember at Primary School our topic was Egypt and we made I think a card poster, display or something similar where the card or paper was painted and was supposed to be the nile. sand I think was also used and cotton wool or paper towel was stuck on and cress seeds were sown on it to look like plants or grass.

superyo wrote:

Okay I wont ask. We also used Plaster of Paris for moddling, which is fun and messy Cool.

I loved having mine done but hated the irritation and itching huh

superyo wrote:

Who's ended up with sand all in their hair and or underwear/nappy then (depending of course on the age)? I remember going to someone's house down my road when I was probably something between about 5 and 7 and apparently the boy who was about 2 or 3 at the most, maybe under 2 put a load of sand in my hair so my mum says.

superyo wrote:

With me it was supposed to be a meet, but unless you can class a horse chomping on your coat as feeding Rire. Oh and in my class we use to keep diaries and I drew a picture in my diary. I had kept the diary and might still have it somewhere.

I' not entirely sure as I've never played it, but I think it has something to do with a Winnie the Pooh game. Anyone? i've never played it either as far as I remember.

Pooh sticks is where you take a few sticks and drop them into a river and see which reaches "the finish line" fastest. I've never actually played it though, but I've heard of it.
