I didn't get to see all that much of this last weekend's race--even though it got rained out for the second time in two weeks. I had to spend Mother's Day up at my gram's with my Confused father, and since he doesn't take to racing too much, I only saw about twenty minutes worth [I didn't see much eye to eye with other thing this weekend with the father, but this is a post on Nascar after all, so I'll leave it at that Clin d'oeil ] I would've much prefered I had stayed home to watch it instead.

I've come to believe that Nascar is very unpredictable, and that today's top contenders might stay put through the season, or possibly be somewhere else in the standing entirely come the final race of the season. Whose to say Gordon's gonna keep it up, or that someone else will get the good luck streak and pull them forward instead? With the unpredictability comes the passion, that little something that has every fan on the edge of their seat for the many laps of every race during every race in the season, from beginning to end, year to year. If Gordon had already had it in the bag years ago, many of the fans probably wouldn't still be loyal to the Cup. That's what truly makes it a great sport.

That, and watching cars go in circles around a track for 200+ laps is so much more interesting then a guy running across a field--ball in hand--away from guys on another team. Just my opinion though Tire la langue

For quite a few people, this is becoming the most disappointing season ever. But to me, it's the oddest season ever.

What's odd is the COT was supposed to bring parity and it's actuallyu driven a further gap between the haves and have nots.

I'm hoping that as the drivers get used to the COT, their performance with it will get better.

We can just hope. I really do hope that the COT won't be a downfall for some drivers that were previously good contenders beforehand. That would be a travesty Fou

Shootout this weekend, brought to you specially by the SPEED channel. Following week: Lowes Motor Speedway. Hopefully the Shootout will be a blast Sourire

Congrats to Mears on his 1st win. It's nice to see someone get the monkey off their back. Craziest top 5 in years. That was a great race!

I didn't get to see much of this week's race due to Bratfest [Wisconsin's odd little celebration for the sausage like creation Rire ], followed with an out of the house friendly grill out get together with some friends. My mom caught some of the beginning of the race--including Gordon's crash--but I had to go to Nascar.com for further details.

They showed footage of Gordon's crash, and I must say--even with being not a big fan of his to say the least--I still had my jaw dropped throughout the duration of the footage I saw of it. The rear of his car being in the air the way it was...that would be scary. Surprisingly, he got through it pretty much unscathed. Sourire

It was cool to hear that Casey Mears got the win--his first too for that matter. Très content And Jr. made the top 10 in 8th. It was good to see him get a good finish. The top five is definitely not one to be expected, but is kind of a nice relief from previous races so far. I've never seen Kyle Petty really get into the top ten all that much, which is awesome to see along with J J Yeley pulling second and Reed Sorenson getting fourth. With Vickers rounding off the top 5, it's an unexpected--yet pleasant--outcome. Sourire

Hopefully next weekend I'll be more fortunate and actually catch a race. The last few--save last week's Bud Shootout, have only been viewed in bits and pieces, if at all. Next up--Dover Sourire

It was so cool to see Truex Jr pull off his first win at Dover. I'm very satisfied wit the results Très content

The possible reason as to why the race was rained out yesterday [in theory--among others] ----or so they're thinking: Mourning Bill France Jr. Could it be possible that he wanted to pass on a day where a race was in progress, knew the day of reckoning, making it the most possible for the whole of Nascar to be able to broadcast their mourning in full during said race? I could've sworn that DW might have suggested that during the race broadcast huh It would be suitable and fitting Très content

Twas a day of major congrats--and a day of great loss. Either way, it won't be one soon forgotten

Nice. Truex Jr is from my town so I am sure he will be all over the papers tomorrow. Congrats to Martin and I hope he does well the rest of the way.

^ Amen. Way to go, Martin Très content

Who do you guys think will be the next first-time winner. I think, unfortunately, Juan Pablo Montoya will be a threat at the road course at Sonoma in a few weeks. Unless Clint wins at Michigan (which I can see happening), JPM may be next.

Jr. will make an announcement tomorrow morning at (I think) 11a.m. on SPEED. I've also heard that Hendrick may release Kyle Busch and replace him with Jr.

Jr. officially joins up with Hendricks, Nascar.com--Looks like the odd man out in this sitch is confirmed as Kyle Busch. Apparently Hendricks disapproved of Busch's aggressive side and they mutually agreed to split ways at the end of this season, leaving room open for Jr come 2008.

When I first heard of the Jr/Hendricks thing this afternoon, I kind of thought it would be between Kyle and Mears. Seeing that each team is allowed to only have four drivers, and the fact that their other two are considered valuable in the sport, it had to be between those two. I have to agree with them one letting Bucsh go, because it would be sad to see Mears get cut. Is it me, or are the Busch brothers a 'little' hot tempered' huh Clin d'oeil

I agree, it's all for the money. Kyle is way younger and has A LOT of talent. To let a guy like that go for Junior is silly. THis was all for the sponsor money and hype HMS will gain.
