I know it's not much of a big deal in the US, but here you cannot escape it.
England won their game against Paraguay today (due to an own-goal!) and it was the main news on our 24-hour news channels (Sky News was worst The entire headline was dedicated to it - never mind the fact that there was a teenage murder-suicide that we'll probably hear nothing more of).
What makes it worse is that the rest of the UK (Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales) have to endure blatent English patriotism and 1966 fetishism day and night since we share most of our TV and radio with them.
The reason Scotland don't want England to win is because we have it repeatedly shoved down our throats that we should be supporting our neighbours. Why the hell should we?

Heh. Welcome to the club. Down here, I must be one of the 0.000003 percent of the population that don't give a damn about soccer. It is really annoying, having to endure all that crap all day long: "Did you see the match? Who do you think is gonna win?? What you think of xxx as a soccer player???"

I mean, what annoys me most is that everybody assumes that everybody likes soccer, and that everybody is into that stuff. Geez!

Oh, well. Fortunately this happens only once each four years. I can't wait for this to finish!!! >_<

The United States doesn't really care at this time for soccer. We're interested in NASCAR, baseball, football, Stanley Cup finals, and who's going to win the NBA finals; Heat or the Mavs?

Still there are some fans who are really dedicated in watching the sport and from time to time I'll see how our national soccer team is doing.

I hate The World Cup. Yesterday I was in town with some mates and literally, like, 85% of people were wearing England tops! Then some of my friends went to Tesco's and bought some massive England flags for like.... 87p or something. Rire

You hate soccer because you are emo and hate everything in this world. Give it a rest.

Every one has a right to their opinions and that's his opinion, just like your opinion. Not everyone has to like something just because other people do. Life would be boring if we all liked the same thing or we were all the same. Anyway case closed, back on topic!

I think Springwatch is sort of another also, which I've been watching off and on (watching now). It's the last week this week. I haven't really been watching the matches. I didn't watch the England match, but had it on tv and kept checking off and on.

Okay the three teams I'm interested in are:

England, well because it's my home nation.
USA, because I have many connections
and well I suppose it would have to be France now, well because Superyo lives there Bizou Très content. One of my previous work colleagues is French, but I haven't spoken to her nor seen her in a while. So I haven't been able to ask her if she's been into the football.

Only in Thailand...

For the first week or so, several games were pre-empted in part (in case of Togo v. Korea, in full) due to various royal celebrations. 60 years ago this week, our current King Bhumipol ascended to the throne, and for the past week, things like fireworks, candle-lighting ceremonies, boat processions, and even a state dinner got TV time on all OTA channels (all 6 of them, as well as two cable channels), and all that coverage even came with 30 minutes of special royal news every day, effectively bumping the football off the schedule. For example, we only got to see the final 20 minutes of Australia v. Japan (although that was enough to show Australia's first ever WC finals goals).

Is the Thai Royal Family very respected and cherished?
Over here, although some royal events get TV time, they are rarely watched (for example, Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall's wedding was televised on the same day as a soap re-marriage. The soap got over a dozen million, but the royal wedding much less.)

...and I didn't watch either. I don't think people here are bothered too much about our Royal Family now as they use to be. As you say more people watched the soap re-wedding than did the Royal wedding. The only time lately that people bothered was when the Queen went to the different towns and cities a couple of years ago and some of them only made an effort to day that they saw her. Personally I'm not into the royals. I don't even know what ours stand for or why we still have them.
