New Kids on the Block reuniting

BOSTON, Massachusetts (AP) -- They may be pushing 40, but the New Kids are returning to the block.
NKOTB

New Kids on the Block sold millions of records in the late '80s and early '90s.

The boy band New Kids on the Block, which sold 70 million albums in the 1980s and early '90s, has reunited and plans to release a new album and go on tour. The reunion comes 20 years after the release of the group's multiplatinum album, "Hangin' Tough."

"The fan response to this has been incredible," band member Donnie Wahlberg told the Boston Herald.

Wahlberg said he was persuaded to get back together with his former bandmates -- Joey McIntyre, brothers Jordan and Jonathan Knight and Danny Wood -- when they decided to record new music. Wahlberg said he wrote 80 percent of the new material with McIntyre and Jordan Knight.

"I had no interest going out on a nostalgia tour and singing the same material," said Wahlberg, 38.

But he added: "We absolutely will do the old songs for sure."

Producer Maurice Starr formed the group in Boston in the 1980s, hoping to recreate the success he had with another teen group from Boston, New Edition.

At the height of their popularity, New Kids sold out world tours, marketed millions of dollars in merchandise and spawned a Saturday morning cartoon.

The group disbanded in 1994. Wahlberg has acted on television and in movies, while Jordan Knight, McIntyre and Wood released solo albums. Jonathan Knight became a real estate developer.

I also read on the Today Show website that they're kicking off their tour on May 16th with a televised concert on the Today Show that morning.

I will definitely be buying that CD when it comes out this summer, and that's saying A LOT because I don't usually buy CDs anymore, I just download all the songs I like off of iTunes, even though I do have tons of CDs. (Probably close to 200 of them!)
Well I saw them perform on Today today. They were great! Très content

What was even more surprising was the diversity of the audience. All different age groups were there, as well as both men and women. They performed a new song called Summertime (It's available for download on iTunes), as well as a classic. . ."Oh oh oh oh oh". . .Yep! (You Got It) The Right Stuff! Très content

The guys looked like they were having lots of fun and I wish I could've been there because it looked like it was a really fun show.

So I wish them the best of luck and lots of success again, and hope they can reach a brand new generation of fans along with the originals, just like me! Sourire

I bought Summertime off of iTunes. It's a great song, very reminiscent of the stuff they did on the Hangin' Tough album. Très content

New Kids On The Block

Summertime lyrics

Spoken:
Jones Beach 1988. Come on!

Do you remember,
Or should I rewind,
To that summer when you caught my eye,
I played it cool,
The weather was hot,
You had the beauty and the beach on lock.

With your flip flops, half shirt, short shorts, mini skirt,
Walkin' on the beach, so pretty,
You wasn't lookin' for a man,
When you saw me in the sand,
But you fell for the boy from the city.

I was like, "hey, girl, can I get your number"
I remember what you told me too,
"Don't call after ten"
But you know that I did,
'Cause I couldn't stop thinkin' 'bout you.

I think about you in the summertime,
(Oh oh)
And all the good times we had, baby,
Been a few years and I can't deny,
(Oh oh)
The thought of you still makes me crazy,
I think about you in the summertime,
(Oh oh)
I'm sittin' here in the sun with you on my mind.
You're my, my summertime.

Do you remember,
I'll never forget,
Touchin' your body all soakin' wet,
The water was cool,
The feelin' was hot,
Kissin' on you while the ocean rocked.

In your strapless sundress,
Kickin' back, no stress,
As long as we was together,
'Cause we were feelin' young love,
And we couldn't get enough.
Baby, I could reminisce forever.

And now I'm like,
Hey, girl, don't you know I miss it,
And I wonder if you miss it too,
Never thought it would end 'til it did,
Now, I'm here and I can't stop thinkin' 'bout you.

I think about you in the summertime,
(Oh oh)
And all the good times we had, baby,
Been a few years and I can't deny,
(Oh oh)
The thought of you still makes me crazy,
I think about you in the summertime,
I'm sittin' here in the sun with you on my mind.
You're my, my summertime.

Spoken: Break it down.

Summer ended,
Winter started,
It got colder,
When we parted ways,
(Spoken: I like this part.)
As the seasons change.
(Spoken: Bring it forward, bring it back)
Winter melted,
Spring I felt it,
Summertime will never be the same,
(Without you. My summertime.)
My summertime.

I think about you in the summertime,
I think about you
(Oh oh)
And all the good times we had, baby,
We had baby
It's been a few years and I can't deny,
I can't deny
(Oh oh)
The thought of you still makes me crazy,
Makes me crazy
I think about you in the summertime,
I'm sittin' here in the sun with you on my mind.
On my mind,
My summertime.

Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, oh yeah.

"Step by Step" is such a great song.. I hate how people comment on how gay it is on YouTube.. they have absolutely no taste if they say they don't like the song, how can you not? that song owns.. I wish I lived back then (early 90's) people dressed so badass.

The new CD comes out September 2nd! Sourire I saw the signs advertising it at work today.

They have an exclusive performance you can watch online here[/url.]

The second single, actually called "Single" is now available on iTunes. I thought about buying it, but then changed my mind. I'm buying the CD when it comes out, so it'd be silly to buy the download and then buy the CD, so I'll just buy the CD.

I listened to previews of it on iTunes, though, and it's really good! Sourire
