They are only doing this because YouTube are getting ad money but it's Viacom's products that are drawing in the viewers.
(I have a Nick clip on my YouTube and it hasn't been taken down. It was a Have Nick Your Way promo for my choices)

It's only Viacom US who have threatened to sue YouTube, so theoretically it shouldn't be removed.

That's probably the dumbest thing you've ever said! (complimentively)

The first time you didn't really think before you posted---Tom explained!

Yeah, I think Bearbear is right; besides, several news reports and articles point on that same direction. Apparently the thing here is that YouTube and its parent company Google sell, or could sell, content-especific ads that would either pop-up or be displayed as links besides YT's videos. If the video featured some of Viacom's property (not only Nickelodeon, BTW), the ads could offer, say, products related to that show in particular. Now, YouTube and / or Google got paid for that particular ad, but Viacom didn't. This is the core of the whole copyright dispute.

I guarantee you that, if the companies involved found a way to share the profits for those ads, the problem could be solved really easily.

Because there's still thousands of videos uploaded before being removed and some of the older ones still have not been removed. The only way uploads of illegal copywrites can be stopped is by pre-moderation (the videos are checked before they are allowed to show up online to be viewed), similar to forums where all messages are checked before they appear.

I know of some countries that have disabled Youtube because they won't take something offesive to that country down but they never sued? South America and Thiland to name a few. Anyways ya I guess i can the whole viacom deal but thankfully I haven't got to the point of uploading anything yet so I'm ok.
