Why do things always happen at the worst possible time? Pfff

Last night I was eating a granola bar with peanuts in it and as I was chewing I managed to break the porcelain crown on one of my top front teeth along with the stub of the real tooth that was supporting the crown! Embarassť

I bit off a piece of the granola bar and started chewing it, then I heard this loud "CRUNCH!" I thought to myself "What was that?" and took my tongue and started feeling around my mouth. Then I got to one of my front teeth and felt a hole there. Crap!

I used my tongue to search for the broken piece, and when I found it I spit out my whole crown, plus part of the actual tooth. I ran into the bathroom and looked in the mirror. My whole tooth is now gone except for a little piece stuck in my gums! Embarassť I put the crown and the remaining fragments of my tooth in a plastic Ziploc bag so they wouldn't get lost.

Of course this had to happen on a Saturday night. It couldn't have happened any other time where the dentist's office might actually be OPEN. No! Instead, it happens when they're CLOSED, and I had to work all day! So I went to work today missing a tooth and looking really stupid, and I had to work a eight hour shift today! Fou People kept staring at my mouth all day today because I still had to talk, and my coworkers were especially bad! It came down to the point where some of them were staring, and I actually caught them off guard by saying "Yeah, I know I look stupid missing a tooth, and I'm going to try and do something about it tomorrow!"

I was supposed to work from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM tomorrow and had to switch shifts with someone just so I can go to the dentist to get this fixed.

So, tomorrow morning I have to get up early and call the dentist and tell them I have an emergency and see if they might be able to work me in. I have the feeling the whole rest of the tooth is going to have come out and an implant is going to have to go in its place. The tooth broke off right in my gums, leaving only the roots. The good news is that tooth was dead, anyway. I severely chipped my two front top teeth when I was a kid, which led to several fillings growing up and eventually the crowns when I turned 18, and the nerves in those two teeth eventually died. So if it has to come out it shouldn't be too traumatizing, because I can barely feel it! It's also going to be expensive to fix, because I don't have dental insurance! Pleure

Now I'm scared of eating peanuts or anything hard!

OOh and I thought when my crown fell out was bad. At least mine is the last tooth in the back. That would be really embarrassing and I still haven't made it to a dentist.

It's fixed now. . .for now! Sourire

I called this morning and they were able to get me in at 10:45. I took the broken crown with me and the dentist looked at it and checked it out, then surveyed the damage done to my mouth. It was really a relatively easy fix. All he did was drill the broken post out of the broken crown, drill the other part of the broken post out of my mouth and smooth that all down, fill the hole in the crown with some cement, fill the hole in my tooth with some cement and put a layer of cement on my tooth, but the crown back on and hold it there for about five minutes to make sure it bonded, and that was it. No shots, nothing! Sourire

He did say that if it happens again, though, I will have to get a new crown, a new post and a new puller put in. Hum...

It cost me $75 to get it fixed, which is better than $1,000 or more! I'm just happy to have all of my teeth back! Rire

It's broken again! Triste

This time I broke it when I was eating lunch today, and, get this, I WAS EATING SALAD! Surpris

So now I have to go back to the dentist again tomorrow, and this time I'll have to get a whole new crown, which is going to be really expensive! It'll probably be at least $1,000 or more! Pleure

Dumb crown! Pleure
