Big Brother 7 details revealed
Filed: 17:13, Apr 27 2006 by James Welsh

The seventh series of Big Brother will start much earlier in May than anticipated, Channel 4 has confirmed.

ITN, which provides news services to Channel 4, reports that sixteen contestants will take part for this year's run, which is scheduled to begin on May 18 for a thirteen week run.

Speculation mounted in the run-up to today's news that Channel 4 would give its flagship reality series an earlier start date to fend off competition from Celebrity Love Island on ITV.

BB eye, launch night scheduling confirmed
Filed: 15:40, May 03 2006 by Neil Wilkes

This year's Big Brother eye has been revealed.

In a stark contrast to last year's blue-black theme - codenamed 'shattered' - this time the logo is a yellow-black swirled affair.

Meanwhile, provisional scheduling for the launch night of Thursday, May 18 has been confirmed. The contestants will enter the house in a 75-minute launch show, beginning at 9pm, before Big Brother's Big Mouth settles into its new slot on E4 immediately afterwards.

Early schedules also suggest that BBLB may be moved back to E4 in a 7.30pm slot.

BBLB returning to E4, new spinoff announced
Filed: 19:34, May 04 2006 by Neil Wilkes

BBLB has been ditched from Channel 4 to E4 for this summer's series, it has been confirmed.

The show - first aired on E4 for BB2 before switching to C4 for BB4 - was ousted from its traditional teatime slot on C4 earlier this year following the success of Deal Or No Deal and The Paul O'Grady Show.

Instead it was moved to a breakfast slot, where it drew around 200,000 viewers - a far cry from the 1.8 million it had averaged in its previous home.

Now the show will air weekdays on E4, live at 7.30pm, although the Sunday lunchtime outing on C4 will remain.

Meanwhile, the long-standing psychology aspect of BB has been consigned to its own show. The new spinoff, called Big Brother’s Big Brain, will air live on Channel 4 on Monday nights. Dermot has been confirmed as host of the series, which will feature discussions and pre-recorded footage taken from the previous week’s happenings, backed by psyche evaluations.

"Channel 4 viewers have always loved the insight that a psychological perspective gives," said Angela Jain, C4's commissioning editor for factual entertainment. "It's fantastic to be able to give Dermot O'Leary the opportunity to get stuck into the minutiae of the housemates' behaviour in a live, dynamic and discursive way."

As previously reported, Big Brother's Big Mouth will retain its daily live slot on E4 immediately following the C4 show. Diary Room Uncut is also returning for the summer.

BB producers search for bugging devices
Filed: 10:01, May 06 2006 by Daniel Kilkelly

The Big Brother compound is to be searched by surveillance experts for bugging devices.

Producers are worried that betting syndicates could attempt to discover eviction phone results before they are made public.

A show insider told The Mirror, "We will protect the integrity of the show whatever it takes."

The new series begins on May 18.

Big Brother's Golden Ticket
Despatched Under Maximum Security

For the first time in Big Brother history, a member of the public will be chosen at random for the unique chance to become a housemate in this year's Big Brother house, that is if they are lucky enough to find a special golden ticket hidden inside a chocolate bar.

Running up to the launch of Big Brother 7, via a huge logistical operation, special KitKat bars will be distributed amongst up to 40,000 retail outlets nationwide ranging from the major Supermarkets to local convenience stores, newsagents and confectionery kiosks in train stations.

Stringent security measures have been put in place to protect the operation of competition. This morning under the watch of an independent security team, Big Brother will hand over the prized tickets for delivery to a secret location where they will be inserted into the bars.

100 golden tickets will be placed into KitKat four-finger single bars and Kit Kat Chunky single bars for distribution across the country. The lucky winners of these tickets, having passed the programme's prerequisite and thorough background checks, will be invited to pack their bags, say goodbye to their loved ones and head down to the Big Brother studios for a special live TV broadcast where one of the lucky ticketholders will then be chosen at random to enter the house.

Earlier this year, open auditions held across the UK attracted a record 25,000 contestants to apply but producers of the Channel 4 show hope that the golden ticket initiative will attract the interest of a wider range of people.

Angela Jain, Channel 4's Big Brother Commissioning Editor said "This is a first for Big Brother. Nothing on this scale has ever been tried before in a reality show. We are always looking at new ways of trying to find brilliant housemates and the golden ticket feels like a genuinely exciting way to do so."

The golden ticket competition opens at 10.30pm on Thursday 18th May and is available in 24hr stores and from opening time for other retailers on Friday 19th May. The competition closes on Friday 2nd June at 10.20pm.

On discovering a golden ticket, each of which are printed with a unique security coding, purchasers will have to ring a special 24 hour telephone hotline number for their chance to land a place in Big Brother 2006.

Golden tickets to be sold on eBay?
Filed: 14:33, May 06 2006 by Daniel Kilkelly

Golden Big Brother tickets could be sold on eBay for up to £10K, producers fear.

100 tickets are being placed in KitKat chocolate bars, and lucky finders will be entered into a lottery to become Big Brother 7 housemates.

"Millions of die-hard fans will pay the earth to get a chance to be on the show," a source told the Daily Star. "It's a once in a lifetime opportunity to queue-jump and get in that house to become famous. At £10,000 it's worth risking it."

A spokesman added, "We would hope anyone who finds a golden ticket in their KitKat bar will enter into the spirit of Big Brother."

The News of the World has printed details of what it claims are twelve of this year's contestants.

Amongst the list of alleged housemates are two glamour models and a stockbroker.

Full details are provided below:

Imogen: A nightclub hostess, hopes to start a career as a TV presenter.

Nicky: Glamour model who claims to have dated several Premiership footballers.

Lee: Second glamour model, still models topless.

Lisa: Expected to be the show's "hyperactive odd-ball".

Sezer: A Mediterranean City stockbroker.

George: Photography student, expected to be the show's "calming influence".

Mikie: A model from Liverpool, in his early twenties.

Richard: Born in Canada, described as a "shaven-headed gay muscleman".

Shahbaz: A camp Indian Glaswegian, reminiscent of X Factor's Chico.

Bonnie: A "no-nonsense" teenager from Loughborough.

Grace: A dancer in West End shows.

The newspaper is also offering to buy golden tickets from lucky members of the public who find them in KitKat bars once the show starts on May 18.

BIG BROTHER 7
PRESS PACK

BIG BROTHER IS BACK!

Countdown begins to new summer series starting May 2006 on Channel 4 and E4.

This summer, Big Brother returns to Channel 4 with an even bigger seventh series. A brand new set of housemates will move into a transformed Big Brother house and viewers will be able to watch their every move on both Channel 4 and E4. For the first time ever, the series will be filmed in widescreen.

As always, however, the unsuspecting group have no idea what Big Brother has in store for them. From the second the famous doors shut behind them, the housemates will have to live together abiding by Big Brother’s strict rules, take part in elaborate tasks and nominate each other for eviction. All this without any contact with the outside world.
This year the house is the smallest yet. The famous Hertfordshire house has been transformed with the Big Brother designers swapping inside for outside. The garden comes complete with interior furnishings, while the inside of the house is clad in outdoor textures such as grass and concrete.

Secrecy surrounds the show until launch night, but one thing is certain: housemates will face eviction every week. The decision as to who stays and who goes is, as always, controlled by the viewers who will be able to vote via telephone and text message. All eviction votes cost 50p per vote and this year a percentage of each vote (10p) will be divided between three charities, Shelter, Teenage Cancer Trust and a third chosen by the series winner.

This year sees the return of hit spin-off shows Big Brother’s Little Brother and Big Brother’s Big Mouth on E4, and a brand new Channel 4 live psychology show for Monday nights, Big Brother’s Big Brain, hosted by Dermot O’Leary.

The Big Brother website’s newsroom will be working round the clock to keep fans up-to-date on all events in the house, as well as offering email updates and chat forums. In addition, website users will be able to follow all the house action by subscribing to the live streaming. And for the first year ever, video clips will be FREE to view.

Big Brother is sponsored by The Carphone Warehouse.

PROGRAMMING INFORMATION

CHANNEL 4 PROGRAMMES

Channel 4 viewers can keep up with events in the Big Brother house throughout the summer in a variety of ways. In brief, Channel 4 viewers will be able to watch:

A live launch show hosted by Davina McCall, which sees the housemates entering the house.
A nightly hour-long show with action from the previous 24 hours in the house.
Live eviction programmes presented by Davina McCall.
A new psychology-based show, Big Brother’s Big Brain, for Monday nights hosted by Dermot O’Leary.
An hour-long Big Brother’s Little Brother on T4 each Sunday, hosted by Dermot O’Leary.
Late-night streaming live from the house.

Big Brother Live Launch Show

Davina McCall presents live from the Big Brother studios where a new group of housemates will enter the Big Brother house for the very first time, live on Channel 4. Viewers will see the new housemates as they share their very first moments together and settle in for what could be the most uncompromising and unpredictable few of weeks of their lives.

Big Brother

The nightly hour-long programmes will feature all the action from the previous 24 hours in the house, including tasks and nominations.

Live Eviction Shows

Davina McCall will announce the result of the viewers’ vote and the evicted housemate will exit the house live on the show. The evicted housemate will then give their first interview, revealing all to Davina about their Big Brother experience.

Big Brother’s Big Brain

A new live show for Monday nights presented by Dermot O’Leary, Big Brother’s Big Brain puts the housemates on the couch for intensive analysis. Psychologists provide up-to-the minute dissection on their behaviour along with lively discussion and probing VTs which delve into the innermost reaches of the housemates’ psyches, giving viewers the psychological explanation behind all the latest Big Brother stories, the relationships in the house and the group dynamics. Never seen before on Big Brother, each week the psychologists will set an ‘experiment’ to go into the house and explain what they expect to see from it, with exclusive analysis in the following week’s show.

Big Brother’s Little Brother

Dermot O’Leary hosts an extended edition of the fanzine show on T4 every Sunday.

Big Brother Live

Channel 4 viewers will have a chance to watch late-night streaming broadcast live and direct from the house every night.

E4 PROGRAMMES

E4 continues to be the number one destination for all die-hard Big Brother devotees, who want to catch all the action as it happens. This year, viewers will also be able to use their red buttons to watch extended footage live from the house.

    Big Brother’s Little Brother
    Big Brother’s Big Mouth
    Big Brother: Diary Room Uncut
    Big Brother Live

Big Brother’s Little Brother

BBLB gets an E4 premiere as Dermot O’Leary presents the essential half-hour fanzine show live from Tuesday to Friday at 7.30pm, delivering all the latest news, views and access to all areas of the house. Dermot delivers his own unique insight into the latest goings-on live from the Big Brother nerve centre, and fans can catch insider scoops on upcoming twists and the very first in-depth interviews with evicted housemates on their return to the outside world.

Dermot will be regularly joined by the housemates’ relatives, friends and workmates, who will reveal what their loved ones are really like in the outside world. In addition to all this, celebrities, journalists, psychologists and other experts will also be dropping in to discuss the latest happenings in the house.

Big Brother’s Big Mouth

Presented by Russell Brand and broadcast live in the shadow of the Big Brother house straight after the nightly Channel 4 show, Big Brother’s Big Mouth is a fast-paced vibrant arena for all Big Brother fans to air their views and ask the questions on everybody’s lips. In front of a live studio audience, a panel of experts, including journalists, celebrities, obsessive fans and friends and relatives of the housemates, will dissect all the latest news and gossip in the house. Plus viewers can get involved by calling and ranting into the Big Brother’s Big Mouth mouthpiece, emailing or texting their thoughts and becoming a member of the studio audience. This year, Big Brother’s Big Mouth will transmit nightly from Tuesday to Friday.

Big Brother Diary Room Uncut

On Saturday and Monday nights, E4 viewers get an exclusive insight into exactly what's been said in the most secret and revealing room in the house. In the infamous diary room chair the housemates can grumble, gossip, cry and connive without anyone else in the house hearing or seeing them. These are the shows where viewers get an extended look at what the housemates disclose about each other and life in the house, and also where they reveal the names of the housemates they’d like to nominate for eviction.

The Saturday night shows are an hour long, and Monday night shows will play for half an hour.

Big Brother Live

Once again, viewers will be able to keep track of all the Big Brother housemates’ activities by tuning into daily live streaming on E4.

THE BIG BROTHER HOUSE

The new housemates will dwell in the infamous Big Brother house, located once more within Elstree Film and Television Studios in Hertfordshire. The house has been completely redesigned for the new series by Patrick Watson and, this year, is smaller than ever before.

House Design

The Big Brother house is, as always, fully equipped with state-of-the-art audio and visual recording equipment to document every movement made and every word said in the house and garden, 24 hours a day.

Each room is surrounded by glass walls. There will be one bedroom for all the housemates to share, and one communal bathroom with two urinals, a bath and a shower. There will also be a larder just off the kitchen area.

In terms of décor, the house will have a disorientating feel to it, swapping inside for outside. The garden comes with interior furnishings such as wallpaper, carpet, a dining table and even a chandelier, while the inside has outdoor elements to it, including faux grass in the kitchen and contemporary garden furniture in the living room. Half of the kitchen itself is outside with a barbeque area for hot summer evenings. More than ever before, the Big Brother house will be a difficult place to live in.

EVICTIONS

Housemates can leave the house in three ways: they may be evicted; they can leave of their own free will (and may do so at any time); or in exceptional circumstances they may be asked to leave by Big Brother. At the end of the series viewers will then vote for the winner.

Voluntary/ Involuntary Departure

If a housemate wants to leave they must first report to the Diary Room and give their reasons for leaving. Big Brother may ask a housemate to leave the house if they behave inappropriately, for example, if they engage in violent or abusive behaviour, or damage the house or its contents. Housemates who leave voluntarily, or who have been asked to leave, may be replaced at Big Brother’s discretion.

The Eviction Process

Housemates are required to participate in the much anticipated, and often equally dreaded, nominations process at a time chosen by Big Brother. Any housemate refusing to make a nomination or failing to provide Big Brother with a satisfactory reason for their nomination will be reprimanded by Big Brother. Housemates are not allowed to discuss their nominations with other house members or to try to influence anyone else’s nominations.

The Diary Room nominations will be announced to housemates at a time chosen by Big Brother and will be included in the Channel 4 highlights show the following evening. Viewers will be able to watch Big Brother announce the results of each week’s nominations live on Big Brother’s Little Brother. The housemates who receive the most nominations are then subject to the public vote, conducted via telephone and text message.

Viewers and housemates will later learn who is to be evicted during Channel 4’s live evening eviction shows, presented by Davina McCall, and the evicted housemate will leave during the second live show.

Big Brother reserves the right to change the frequency, times and details of nominations and evictions at any time.

WAYS TO VOTE

Each Big Brother housemate will be allocated a voting number and will keep that number throughout the series. Viewers can vote for the housemate they want to evict (and, at the end of the series, for the housemate they want to win) by:

Telephone - Viewers in the UK and Republic of Ireland can call the Big Brother voting lines each week to evict the housemates. (UK calls cost 50p. Calls from the Republic of Ireland cost €0.75 incl VAT. Mobile and other network rates may vary.).
Text message - Fans can text the name of the housemate they want to evict to the Big Brother shortcode 84444. They will then receive a message confirming that their vote has been registered. (All calls cost 50p / €0.75 plus standard network rate).

10p for each 50p vote will by distributed equally between the three charities, Shelter, Teenage Cancer Trust and the winning housemate's chosen charity.

NEW INTERACTIVE SERVICES

BROADBAND VIDEO

Channel4.com users will be offered free exclusive access to video clip highlights of the show, plus a premium-priced live stream with all the action direct from the Big Brother house, priced at £7.99 for the series.

MOBILE SERVICES

Channel 4 offers a range of mobile phone services for Big Brother fans on the move. In brief, the services, available across all UK mobile phone networks, are:

Viewers can put their questions to the live panel on Big Brother's Big Mouth by calling the number promoted on screen.

THE BIG BROTHER WEBSITE

Europe’s most popular entertainment website is bigger and better than ever this year, with all the latest news, gossip and information from the Big Brother house, at www.channel4.com/bigbrother. This year the site launches with a completely new redesign.

Online is the first resource for catch-up video clips – if you get to work and everyone’s talking about something that’s happened on the show, you’re guaranteed to find it on the website. And for the first year ever, video clips will be FREE to view.

A new addition this year will be the News Flash – THE place to read what the housemates are up to at that precise moment – it’s streaming without the vision.

Viewers will also be able to sign up to streaming as normal, with a season pass or a 24 hour pass. There are also mini sites for Big Brother’s Little Brother and Big Brother’s Big Mouth with exclusive interviews and features specific to the shows that won’t be found anywhere else.

Online, yet again, is the definitive Big Brother resource where viewers can keep up-to-date with all the latest news from the house. In addition to the breaking news stories, users can sign up to a daily newsletter, download a desktop news ticker that links straight to the site, check out the latest image galleries, enter exclusive online competitions to win eviction tickets and much, much more.
