I think it came from the Old Testement it seems kinda hard to understand as the old Testement is. Sourire Maybe it was from their it looks like it did because that is the wording they use in there.

Though in French agreement causes problems, for example:
sa mère = his/her mother
This makes it difficult to know the gender of someone else!
If I've been taught correctly!

adjectives can have a feminine form Sourire

I am pretty (he / she ?) -> je suis beau (he) / je suis belle (she)
