Piracetam is a drug which was first introduced in 1964 by Corneliu Giurgea, a Belgian Scientist at UCB laboratories. Piracetam is part of a class of drugs known as Nootropics. Nootropics have been scientifically shown to improve cognitive functions and enhance mental performance. There are many major ailments which are treated professionally with Piracetam. Piracetam is available over-the-counter or with a prescription.

As part of Piracetam's effect of increasing cognitive functions, it specifically effects and benefits your memory, intelligence, and attention span, as well as other benefits which can vary from user to user. The increased mental activity is due to an increased blood flow between the two hemispheres in your brain, and has also been shown to aid and repair brain tissue damaged by chemicals such as alcohol, or from physical trauma.

It is possible that Piracetam can help patients cope with and treat the symptoms of such things as Alzheimer's disease, although no studies concluded have proven this. In tests with elderly drivers, Piracetam has been shown to increase cognitive function and motor skills when driving. Dyslexia, and Parkinson's disease are also candidates for treatment by Piracetam.
