. . . And guess who got a new prescription?

I've had glasses for reading ever since I was in grade 11, and today they changed my prescription.

I was told I'm farsighted, meaning that I have difficulty focusing on objects that are close to me (This explains why when I read or write anything without my glasses on that I have to literally have the paper almost to my nose.), I have Lazy Eye, and my depth perception is horrible, to say the least.

The Lazy Eye and depth perception loss go hand in hand. The optometrist told me I've probably had both problems ever since I was really little, it's just that my previous doctors never caught it. What happens with Lazy Eye is one or both of your eyes does not focus correctly, so your other eye tries to compensate for what the other eye can't focus on. He noticed that when I look straight ahead at something, like when someone's talking to me, one eye will look straight and the other will turn out. I also tilt my head a lot, which is an attempt to get both eyes to focus on the same thing. He tested for this by covering each eye up with that little paddle thingy (LOL, Don't know what that's called!) and looking at a line of letters. The letters jumped all over the place, like they were jumping up and down, and I kept tilting my head forward and back, raising my head and eyes up to look at the letters, and tilting my head from side to side. He did another test without the letters, and this time he had me hold the paddle thing up to one of my eyes and he took out his pen light and a pen and had me focus straight ahead on the pen while he looked at my free eye. I could not keep my eye still for that long, because the "jumping" started again! Again, I started tilting my head from side to side, forward and back, up and down. He tested the other eye the same way, and the same thing. It's funny, because I never realized that I did that stuff before! Surpris

The loss of depth perception means I don't see things in three dimensions. Things look flat to me. I don't know if any of you guys have ever had these tests done before or not when you've gone to get your eyes checked, but you know the ones where they have you look at the picture of the 3D holographic fly and the one with the diamond-shaped thingies with the four bullseyes in them, and you have to tell them if they "jump out" at you? I did miserably on those! For the one with the fly he told me to "grab" the tip end of the wing of the fly, which I did. Then he told me that was wrong. I said "No way!" and he said I actually "grabbed" the bottom of the picture, and the tip end of the fly's wing was actually about half-way up! Surpris Then I did the test with the bullseyes. I was supposed to tell him which bullseye popped out of each one of the four, and I could only make out the first three. The rest of them was just like looking a flat piece of paper.

Then he had me read the lines of letters. After that he told me the bad news about the farsightedness. He said I have to strain my eyes a lot in order to be able to see up close, which isn't natural. He put drops in my eyes to dilate them, and told me since it would take a few minutes for those to set in, I could go back out and check out my options for frames and purchase them, so I did. I actually really like the ones I got! Sourire They're made by J.Lo! ( Here is a picture of them.) After I bought them and paid for everything else, he called me back in and had me do a few more tests, then sent me home. He told me to wear my reading glasses up until the new ones come in, and then when the new ones get here to switch to them, since the reading glasses will be good enough for the time being. So now I have to wear them all the time instead of just when I need them! They also changed the prescription strength, too. The ones I have now are +1.00, and the new ones are +1.25. Oh well! Beats walking into things and having to hold stuff so close to my face so I can see it! I knew it was coming, anyway, just thought I'd have a little more time!
