My First Railroad Crossing Story On THIS Nickdisk Board (especially for TommyBoy)

Hi, I am writing a railroad-crossing story for my most favorite cartoon in the world, Fairly Oddparents. This story may suck but I am going through some things right now and so I am doing this the best way I can.

Anyway here’s the story.

I am driving through Dimsdale with Timmy and his friends. I am driving my red 1950s car. Visit this link to see which car I’m driving: http://www.pattosplace.com/slotshots/ga450s.jpg The car is on the very right.

I am driving Timmy, Tommy (Cosmo and Wanda’s son and Timmy’s God brother), Chester and AJ and Cosmo and Wanda to the Dimsdale Mall. Tommy who although is a fairy is in his human form and is in the front passenger seat. Timmy is in the middle backseat between AJ and Chester. AJ is sitting behind me and Chester is sitting behind Tommy. Cosmo and Wanda are disguised as pink and green dice hanging from the rear view mirror. Timmy Chester and AJ are all talking to each other. Tommy is quiet and watching the road with me. We are also listening to Michael Jackson. The song we're listening to is "Bad", my most favorite song by Michael Jackson.

Soon we come up to a public highway rail-grade crossing. The crossing has bells, lights, and gates, which is how I like railroad crossings (or Level Crossings for those of you who are British) to be. As we approach the crossing, the lights begin to flash and the gate arms begin to go down. I slow down and stop at the lowered crossing gate like I’m supposed to because it’s the law.

So you guys know, this crossing has two signals with black poles, white 90-degree angle Crossbucks (the X-shaped sign) with black letters reading RAILROAD CROSSING. Below it are two pairs of flashing red lights one pair facing forward and the other facing rearward just like on real railroad crossings. There is also a White square-shaped sign featuring the words in black STOP ON RED SIGNAL. The lights are 8” incandescent lights with 20” backgrounds.
On top of that, the gates are red and white-striped wooden A-frame gates with three 7” incandescent gate lights. They are separated from the signals and are mounted behind the signals. A-frame gates are also known as wishbone gates. Wishbone gates were one of the first types of gates to be used on RRXINGs and were black and white and manually operated. Probably in the 1930s they were made with signals and were automated. Then in the 60s or 70s they were changed to red and white. Wishbone style gates are very rare now and have been replaced with the single bar gates.

Here are pictures of what our signals looked like:
Those are just a couple of examples of what the signals looked like. They surely weren’t HO scaled!

For those of you who are not familiar with A-frame gates, let me give you a few
examples:
This particular gate in the picture is black and yellow but mine are red and white.
http://www.rxrsignals.net/California/Old_River/Bear/2.jpg This shows one example of a wishbone gate from the front. This one has 7” lights on it. This is also an example of what 8” lights are.
http://www.rxrsignals.net/California/Ducor/56/5.jpg This is an example of what a wishbone gate looks like from the side. This gate however has 4” gate lights.
http://www.rxrsignals.net/Wisconsin/OakCreek/Fitzsimmons/4.JPG This is another example. This too has 4” gate lights.
http://www.rxrsignals.net/Argentina/Buenos_Aires/Buenos_Aires/Cordoba/10.JPG This is good example of a black signal with a wishbone gate. This however takes place in Buenos Aires, Argentina and the gates do not have any lights on them.

Anyway back to the story.

20 seconds after the signals start, a whistle blows two long blasts, a short, and then a long blast. The train that crosses our path is led by a black steam locomotive with a coal car and features brown, green and blue box cars. There are also log carrying cars and gondola cars. The train is long and consists of about 50 freight cars, and is tail-ended by a red caboose. We sit back and enjoy the train going by. I forgot to mention that the bell, which is a WRRS mechanical bell is mounted on the gate we’re at. The other bell is a RACO mechanical bell. My car is also shut off to save gasoline.

When the train is gone, the bells stop ringing and the gates rise up and then the lights time out when the gates are vertical.

I restart my vehicle and drive across the tracks and we continue to the Dimsdale mall.

The End

Great story once again, William!

I wish my town didn't only have one train a day and no crossings.

Anyway, Great Story, see you in your next one! Sourire

Thanks for replying.

Did you mean you want crossings in your town or no?

I hate only having one train go by although it's better than nothing. What I hate about it is not being able to see it.

BTW, I plan on writing more RRXING fanfics.

I would like crossings, yes. At least we have trains, though.

Who knows?

Maybe you'll move to a town with crossings. Clin d'oeil
